Door Covering

So this is the before picture of the terrible tye dye window door covering:

And here is the after:

I am so proud of myself =)
It's obvious that I do not sew often nor good at it but I did sign up for a sewing class at the local Hancock's when I went to purchase the liner! I am excited to learn the basics of sewing and maybe by the time we have kids I'll be good enough to sew some of their outfits!!

The Garrett's are ready for the weekend!
Hope everyone has had a wonderful week!

Gulity

This is the face of pure guilt!

The morning ritual in our house is to get up and feed the pets. RHETT's breakfast is a bowl of food and a dog biscuit. Well, after his unfortunate haircut yesterday I guess he felt obliged to help himself to the box of dog biscuits (the box stays next to his food and he has NEVER, to our knowledge, just helped himself like he did this morning).

He ALWAYS eats his biscuits on some form of carpet/rug. It is strange but true. So he came in our room on the rug and ate a biscuit this morning that I assumed BEG had given him and then he left. When BEG came back in the room, I asked where RHETT was and he said "in the room with the shag rug eating a dog biscuit". I said "did you give him another one"? And he said "I never gave him a first one"! Busted!!!

I heard RHETT wandering around and got out of bed to catch him. Sure enough, about 30 seconds later he turns the corner from the office (which is where we keep their food, etc) and he was carrying another dog biscuit. When he saw me he immediately dropped it and tucked his head. I laughed but also fussed at him b/c I don't want him eating himself sick!

Such a sneaky little guy!!

Bad Hair Day

So the boys in the house got haircuts yesterday. One was planned while the other one was not and both were unfortunate!

RHETT was due for a bath so I found a place in town that would bath him, trim his nails and clean his ears for a reasonable price so I loaded him up and took him over Saturday morning. When I dropped him off the lady asked me if I would like his "privates and such trimmed" to which I replied "no ma'am, just a bath". Well, they decided to trim him anyway and now he looks like a circus animal. If you look at the top photo closely you can see how hairy and scruffy looking his paws were.

This is what they look like now......ridiculous!
And the underneaths.......horrendous!
Bless his heart...
I can only imagine how much he HATED this!
He looks like some kind of ridiculous show dog from about mid leg down. It's awful!!

Blake's haircut is a whole other story! He wouldn't dare let me take a picture of his hair so I will just have to tell you the story.

Moving sucks when it comes to finding new places to: take your pet, get haircuts, dry cleaning, etc. We asked a few people (men) in town where they get their haircut and everyone told him "SportsClips". We should have exercised better judgment but how hard is it to cut hair. Well, from the looks of BEG's hair yesterday, it is very difficult.

After his haircut, while driving down the road he looked over at me in the car. This was our conversation "Babe, your hair is completely uneven in the front. Yeah, I know. Well, go back and have them fix it. No, I don't want to go back in there. Will you just cut it for me at home? No, I have never cut anyone's hair before! It won't take too long for it to grow back out and in the meantime I will just leave it messed up in front so you can't tell."

So later in the afternoon while checking out at Chipotle, I spotted a salon across the street. BEG and I walked over to get a price list and check the place out. The girls there were so nice. After telling them about our unfortunate incident at SportsClips one of the girls felt so bad for BEG she offered to fix his hair for FREE! We were so thankful for her generous offer. And to think it would have only been $5 more if he would have come here in the first place! She, thankfully, fixed his hair and gained 2 new customers for the next 3 years!!

So needless to say, it might be awhile before the Garrett's venture out to get baths/haircuts again anytime soon!

Waffles

This is Waffles, our neighbors dog. He is 6 months old and absolutely precious!

Blake loves for him to come over and play with RHETT. RHETT sometimes feels otherwise but it's good energy burning for them both!

Rattlesnake Round-up

So Blake and I went to the 56th Annual Rattlesnake Roundup this weekend in Sweetwater.
It was a first for me (and probably a last) but I am glad we went.

Here is a rattlesnake up close:

Look at those fangs!!!
Getting the snake mad so he can "milk" it:
Milking the snake:
(this is where they drain the venom)

Here they had a skinning booth, GROSS:

We enjoyed the afternoon hanging out with the Green's, who are Sweetwater natives. Dan's brother cooks a bunch of food, many drink beer and everyone just enjoys the weather (which was beautiful)!

Apparently, rattlesnakes are everywhere out here in West Texas. People actually hunt them, crazy I know! They have some very interesting vendors and things to purchase as I am sure you can imagine.

Sleep Over

The dog in the background is Abe. Abe's owner, Britton, is a friend of Blake's and is in Lubbock as well for work. Unfortunately, the hotel where Britton is staying doesn't allow pets so Abe has been staying with us this week.

The animals are so funny to watch "guard" their things (food, bones, beds, etc).
Here is Rhett guarding his food bowl, ha!
George had finally had enough of being pushed around
so he decided he was safer on top of the refrigerator, ha!
Britton came to get Abe for a while yesterday to take him to the park, etc.
This was RHETT while he was gone, completely exhausted!!!

Whoever thinks pets are not like children either doesn't have a pet or has never been around kids. I am beginning to think that pets might be slightly worse!! But they are so funny to watch.

We've enjoyed Abe's visit this week.
Everyone is so tired when it comes time to sleep it's been quite nice!

40 days

Have you decided what you are going to give up for Lent this year??

Blake and I discussed it yesterday and decided on a few things.
1. We have found ourselves (sadly) falling behind on our daily readings in the UpperRoom and the Bible. There are no excuses for it and we are going to use Lent to get back in a schedule of reading the Word that works for us.
2. Blake decided that he was going to give up sweets. I try and keep my Lent "promises" reasonable so I will not be participating in this one but good luck to Blake.
3. We are in full swing at Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University. We are learning a lot about managing money and are really enjoying the challenge of being debt free for life. We are 15 days into our "cash only" lifestyle and will use these 40 days to help keep us on track and focused. If we can make it through Lent hopefully it will be a new lifestyle that comes easily! (Note: you are dealing with 2 people who before this class NEVER and I say NEVER had cash; we were plastic people so this is quite a challenge)!!!

Whatever you chose to give up this year, I hope you are successful! I know first hand what a challenge it can sometimes be (I gave up caffeine last year but am proud to say that I have stayed caffeine free)!!!!

Good Luck to everyone and Happy Lent!!

Happy Mardi Gras

(Please excuse the fact that I'm a day late with this post)!
I really start to miss Louisiana this time of year when I am not living there. Short of Washington, D.C. (which has one of the most elaborate and fun Mardi Gras celebrations) this is the furthest from Louisiana I have EVER been. And it makes me sad =(
So trying to share as much Mardi Gras spirit as I could I decided to take own the "Homemade King Cake" again this year. It was delicious as usual and so fun to make (although quite time consuming)!

There were no parades, or beads, or beer drinking or celebrating yesterday. It was quite sad for this Louisiana girl. Oh well, I'll get back to New Orleans one of these years or at least Shreveport for a parade.

I hear I'm in for a real treat in May......Cinco de Mayo. That appears to be the BIG celebratory holiday that is celebrated out here in the west, lovely!

Happy Ash Wednesday!
