Weekend Recap

I keep us pretty busy around here,
which I like,
but I must say that at this very moment
I am
EXHAUSTED!!

On to our weekend:

Blake picked up a flyer for the Buddy Holly musical,
somewhere,
and I stuck it on our bullentin board in hopes of going to see it.

We went this last Friday.
If you are a Lubbock local
or live anywhere within driving distance
Blake and I both would HIGHLY recommend going to see it.

It was fantastic.

Lots and lots of music
by Buddy, the Big Bopper and Richie Valens.

It was quite surreal that the show took place
in the Lubbock High auditorium,
Buddy's alma mater.

Before the show,
they asked if anyone in attendance had gone to school with Buddy.
A man and woman both stood up.

Pretty crazy to think that he would still be alive
and the music industry would still have some decent music
if those 3 hadn't gotten on that plane February 3.

Saturday night Blake's favorite,
Reckless Kelly,
was playing at a local college bar
welcoming all the co-eds back.

We thought it would be crazy crowded
but thankfully it was bid night
so it was perfect for us old folks!

We started the night at Manna Bread and Wine
with some fellow Shreveporters turned Lubbockians,
Cam and April McCartney
and then headed over to Wild West.

We had a wonderful time
but stayed out WAY past our bedtimes.

I didn't get out of bed Sunday until 1pm
and felt awful ALL day long.

I'm learning the hard way
that although I live in a college town
I can't hang with them like I used too!!

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Redneck Arborist

We have a tree right beside our driveway.

And with a tree comes birds.

And with birds comes bird poop.

And being a driveway my car is parked there.

On Wednesday,
I had finally had enough bird poop
so I called Jake
and asked if we could borrow a chain saw;
this limb was coming down pronto!

Blake monkied his way up the tree
and started sawing.

We had to get inventive
inorder to get the branch down without
taking the house/roof with it.

So.....we went the redneck route
and used a super long water hose
as our rope!

But we got the limb down with
no damage to anyone or anything!!

And the good news is
NO BIRD POOP ON THE CARS

Back to School

I can't believe the time is already upon us
for the fall semester.

Thursday
was Blake's 1st "real" day of school.

all ready for class with his new backpack!

He is taking 17 hours
and will be a busy student this fall.

He liked all of his professors but 1
and hopefully that guy will come around
but only time will tell.

Blake's request for his
"back to school night"
was homemade chicken enchiladas.

Here's to a great 3 years!

1 Year Anniversary - Scottsdale

Blake and I spent the long weekend in Scottsdale, Arizona
celebrating our 1 year anniversary
(a few months late)!

We stayed at The Phoenician Resort
and LOVED it

We were coming back in from a walk
so I had to stop and take a picture
(so touristy, I know)

They had a water slide
that we really enjoyed
(along with all the children, ha!)

Our view from the pool,
gorgeous
If you look real close
there's BEG in the bottom center

The hotel left us champagne in our room
for our anniversary
And we got some free chocolate covered strawberries
from the room service guy in the hall on the way back to our room
(the people who ordered them cancelled the order!)
We set out on a walking adventure Friday
that was only suppose to be 3 miles
but instead ending up being about 5.5
but we stumbled upon Old Town Scottsdale
And finally made it to our destination....
What do they serve you might ask??
Well we ordered
fried chicken,
waffles,
grits,
fried okra,
and mac n cheese!
Ha,
good thing we walked!!!

He was SO excited for this meal =)
A little stroll through the cactus garden
at the resort

On Saturday
we decided to hike the Camelback mountain
seen in this picture
Doesn't look to bad
but it was hard work!!!
But worth the beautiful panoramic view of the city/cities

That's the resort in the bottom left

Saturday night
we decided to head to supper to
celebrate the anniversary
Blake loves Entourage
and they eat at Mastro's often so ......
We thought we would give it a go
and it was superb!

And on the way out of town
we couldn't pass this up......
We attempted to stop when we arrived
but Phoenix is 2 hours behind Lubbock
and it was only 9:15am Phoenix time when we landed
and they don't open till 10:30.
So we stopped by on the way back to the airport
and it hit the spot!!

We have had a blast these last 12 months
but have had A LOT of transitions to say the least!
We've lived in 4 different cities, 2 different houses,
2 different hotel rooms, I switched jobs,
Blake quit work and went back to school full time
to name a few things that have changed in the last 365 days!!!
Our trip was a nice break from the work/school grind
that is now our life
and it was refreshing to get away
and really enjoy being together without
"life" getting in the way!

To many more years together......

Hometown Heros

My little hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana

suffered a great loss this past weekend with the loss

of Navy Seals Rob Reeves and Jonas Kelsall.

Jonas

Both were incredible people.

It is just so hard to believe.

Please keep these young mens family and friends

in your constant prayers

and remember that our FREEdom is not at all free.

God Bless you boys.

Santa Fe

Milly and Gilbo came to Lubbock Thursday night
for their 1st visit!
Not sure how they felt about the actual town
but it sure was good to see them
and show them around our new "home".

After Blake's final Friday
(he is finished with summer school
and did great! Woo Hoo)
we all loaded in the car
and headed to Santa Fe for the weekend.

We had a fabulous weekend doing
NOTHING.

We stayed in a cute little
2bed 2bath cottage
right off the Plaza
which was super convenient.

On our first walk around the plaza
we spotted this
and had to stop and snap a pic....
We then headed over to the
Loretta Chapel
to see the famous stairs...
We passed by
St. Francis Cathedral
and as we stopped to go inside
they locked us out....
Friday evening
a thunderstorm moved in.

My soul has been longing for rain
(it hasn't rained in Lubbock since October!)
so I was SO excited for rain
(the thunder, lightening
and cooler temps were
just icing on the cake)
We enjoyed sleeping in, reading
hanging out, relaxing
and exploring Santa Fe.
We had a lot of fun
and I'm so glad that we were able
to visit without an agenda with
my parents.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

On the Mend

I was able to bring RHETT home yesterday
after a couple days and a night at the Vet.

He is feeling much better
but still not 100% back to his old self
but getting there!

He even looks a little skinner, poor guy

After blood work,
fluids under the skin,
injectable antibiotics,
and some baby food
the Vet is still puzzeled as to what made him so very ill.

They are thinking that he ingested something
(ie. animal)
that was toxic to his system
and his body just had to rid itself of the "poison".

I am just happy to report
that he is on the mend
and is at home.

Thanks to everyone who called
and checked on him.

He is one antibiotics for the next week,
which he is not at all crazy about,
a special diet of wet dog food,
which stinks horribly,
but it is bland and soft on his tummy and he eats it
so.......
whatever makes him better, right?

george henry is still fat
and oh so happy now that his big brother is back!
