Helping Out

BEG and I have a deal in our house (I really did marry the best man alive!!) I cook and he does the dishes (I know I'm the luckiest girl around......for many reasons). Every night George helps BEG do the dishes, if you can call this helping.

Red Thumb

BEG likes really hot peppers. We used to purchase serranos weekly at the grocery store until he decided to purchase a serrano plant while on an outing at Home Depot. He paid $5 for the plant that has produced one pepper in the 10 weeks that we have had it and it is now red (and red for peppers is not good!) I'm not quite sure why he wanted to buy a serrano plant considering they cost 3 cents at the grocery store (I am not joking, they are 3 cents at Brookshire's) but I will say that we do not have a green thumb at our house, more like a red one!

Precious

RHETT is the best big brother EVER! He not only shares all of his toys with George but even his food and water bowls BEG made him!! I have the most precious pets!!

This picture was on Monday. I caught George up there a couple of days before this photo but this is the first time he has gotten up there while RHETT was eating. I must admit, RHETT did much better than I thought he would! This picture was on Tuesday! Trying to be just like his big brother and eat/drink from the ground (a little bit harder since George is so tiny)!

Inside Jobs

I have made no real progress on the door shade (just sheer laziness) but as soon as I do something with it I will let you know how it turns out. This is what it looks like now.

So I ordered a chandelier on overstock.com a few weeks ago to help make our dining room a bit more formal looking. Well, I knew it wasn't going to be first class (or second or third for that matter) considering I paid about $200 for it but I was a bit taken off guard when it came in the mail. BEG opened the box and about died; it was in 60 different pieces literally and none of them seemed to fit properly! Here is what our dining room table looked like:

We returned it yesterday! Ha!

Blah

We are having a hard time shaking whatever it was that made me and BEG so sick a few weeks ago. Both of us feel just blah all the time and can't seem to feel better. I feel certain that the 100 + degrees each day isn't helping.

Speaking of 100+ heat, when we got home last night it was SOOOO hot on our side of the house (we have 2 units.) BEG was just dying, I on the other hand was rather comfortable but I must admit when you are a slightly cooler outside (and it's 90 degrees) then you have a problem!! We slept with a box fan on us and the thermostat reading 83! BEG called the AC people this morning and a guy came out at lunch. Luckily it was just the capasiter(???) and not too expensive to fix. I like warmer weather but these temps are killing even me. I am so ready for fall and cooler temps (and of course football!!)

And while we are on the topic of cooler temps, BEG and I booked our flights yesterday for our ski trip to Jackson Hole, WY. I am going to freeze my butt off but I am really looking forward to the trip. A couple of years ago when BEG went to JH in December he said it was -13 degrees, he of course told me this AFTER I booked the flights!! Cold or not I am really excited (and BEG is beside himself since skiing got replaced with wedding planning last year!)

We spent our weekend hanging out with friends and doing odd and end projects around the house. The painter we use has been so busy lately that we decided to tackle the archway ourselves. I must say we did a pretty good job but then again painting isn't hard just extremely boring! However, nothing seems to be boring around here anymore with 2 dogs and a cat. Here is a picture of the archway complete! We love it!!
I was working on my Ole Miss wreath the other night painting the letters and George somehow got into the red paint. BEG kind of freaked out when he got home b/c he thought George's ear was bleeding! If anyone has any suggestions of how to remove red paint from your cats ear please advise! Never a dull moment, seriously! Here are some before and after photos of my wreath making. I needs a few more things to complete it but you get the idea!

On the topic of ticket buying, I purchased our tickets for our first Ole Miss football game of the season today as well. We are meeting all of my friends from college in NOLA for the Tulane/Ole Miss game. It is sure to be a good time and I am really excited to see everyone!! We can just never get together too often!

Hotty Toddy!! Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Door Shade

So my first sewing project was to make a cover for our side door. The west sun comes through and makes it about 15 degrees hotter and the privacy was non existent. I made a little something that I thought would work but it won't seem to stay in the brackets on the bottom. Every time the door opens it swings out and looks bad. I looked at some different sites online yesterday and found something that might work out a bit better; a roll up shade. Here is what the door looks like currently:

So with a "roll up shade" you sew ribbon or some form of tying mechanism a couple of inches off the top on both the front and the back sides. I am going to try to find a cute ice blue ribbon to match my fabric. You then tie the ribbon in bows or knots at the bottom when you would like the shade up and untie them and let them hang when you want the shades down! Sounds pretty easy. The "look" is going to be much less "tailored" but I think it will be way more efficient for as much as we use the side door.

I am hoping to do this project this evening while BEG is golfing (in the 100 degree heat...he's nuts!) I will post pictures once it's up.

Happy Tuesday!

Lake Day

Poor RHETT was about to go crazy since we have been "resting" all week so we decided to head up to the camp Friday after work so he could hang his head out of the window on the ride up, ride in the boat and swim in the dirty water! He loved every minute that we were there!!

While RHETT was enjoying the lake, George was going bonkers over his new ball of yarn we got him! He LOVES it and continues to "roll" the kitchen in the bright colors.

And this is what they look like this Sunday afternoon after there big weekend!!

Hope everyone had a restful weekend!!

A Whole Lot of Nothing

This is what we have felt like in our house this week:

We went and had supper with some friends last Saturday night and I either a) got food poisoning or b) picked up a 12 hour stomach bug because I was sick, sick, sick! Poor BEG got sick just looking at me.
We laid real low this week in hopes of feeling better and I somewhat do but still feel a little "different".
Thankfully we don't have anything on the books until Labor Day weekend when we head to Abilene for opening weekend of dove season.

Hope your week was better than ours!!

Garage Sale

BEG and I had our first garage sale this weekend. It started off by us posting hot pink signs Wednesday evening letting people know we were having a sale Saturday at 7am.
As we were preparing things last night an elderly couple stopped by to see if they could get a "sneak peak" (not a joke!) It got even worse when BEG informed them that the majority of the merchandise was in the house and the lady responds "that's okay we will just go in there then and look at it" and they did!!!! My friend, Caroline, and I were in the living room chatting amongst boxes when BEG escorted this kind couple in (sense the sarcasm?!) She ended up buying one thing for $10 but the audacity of some people is unbelievable.

We set the alarm for 5am so that we would have plenty of time to get everything out and organized before people started coming. Well if I learned one thing throughout this whole process is that you can NEVER get up too early for a garage sale. Our first customer came at 6:07am and you guessed it, it was the crazy couple from last night (they didn't buy anything this time!) They were closely followed by a man at 6:15 (so much for putting a time on our signs!!)
After we finally got everything set up around 7am it started to RAIN!!!! I was so discouraged but our kind neighbor saw us setting up and then saw it raining a few minutes later and kindly brought over some plastic wrap to cover our stuff until the rain went away. It lasted about 20 minutes but the people never stopped coming (thank goodness!)

We wrapped things up at noon with about 2/3rds of the stuff we started with GONE and $525.45 in our pockets!!!!!!!!!! WOO HOO........
We then immediately loaded up what was left of our goods and split them between Goodwill and the Providence House. It feels so good to have our garage back and money in the pocket!!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Kitchen Curtains

I would love to tell all of you that I made these myself but I can not lie about it. I just knew they were going to be so cute and I couldn't find the patience to wait on myself to do them.......so off to the family seamstress I went. She is fantastic, quick and cheap. (I took her the fabric, measurements and fringe and she called me 7 days later and charged $45!!!!!!!) Unbelievable, I know!!

How cute are these?!?!?!?!?!?!?

So cute, I know!!

Love them!!

Shop Till You Drop

BEG and I woke up at 4:30 am and headed to Canton Saturday and sadly I was not impressed.

Photo Caption: Eating at the Cracker Barrel at 6am (we were waiting for the doors to be unlocked we were there so early, ha!)

All I found Canton to be was a large, large and even larger garage sale. I am not one for junk so .......... no purchases for me! We wandered around till about 11am and then continued into Dallas and to IKEA.

Again, I was not impressed. Everyone is always talking about how cool IKEA is and all I witnessed was a chaotic warehouse of cardboard boxes with a cafeteria!

After 2 failed attempts at being impressed we headed to a sure pick me up, Northpark!!! We got lots of great stuff for cheap thanks to the Last Call Sales =) And good clothes on sale always puts a smile on my face!!

Happy Monday!
