Since we've been home

The first thing we did once we got home
was take george henry for his yearly shots
and Boone & Crockett for their 1st vet visit!

It went exactly as you would expect a vet visit with 3 animals to go
but we all survived
and everyone is vaccinated and healthy!!

Everybody is adjusting to the new normal
and getting along well.

Blake built the pups a nice off the ground bed
to help keep them cool while they snooze
since they spend most of their day outside
(or are at least supposed too!)

george henry snoozes on our bed now
to stay out of harms way on the floor
We decided to build an awning in the back
to give the pups some shade
and to keep us dry when it rarely rains.

I finally got around the hiding the washer & dryer
by using a bed sheet
and one of my kitchen curtains that was in Gladstone.

Blake's folks stopped by Friday-Sunday
on their way back to Abilene from Sedona, Arizona.

Cashed after their 1st weekend at home

I started my new job the 22nd
and Blake started school the 27th.
We are back in the grind and are loving being home!

Vernal in the rearview

We did not waste a minute packing up the car.
To say we were ready to get home,
would be the understatement of the century!

We arrived back to Vernal late Sunday night
and were on the road towards home Tuesday evening
after Blake's presentation that afternoon.

Although it was a pretty view all summer,
we were SO excited to see this in our rearview mirror!

We were a little tight on space since we added 2 pups
but we somehow managed to fit everything and everybody!
all of our stuff
the animals domain and all of their stuff
We left about 7pm Tuesday
and drove the 3 hours to Grand Junction.
We stopped at a Laquinta for the night for some shut eye
before making the remaining 17.5 hours Wednesday.

RHETT woke up at 3:30am b/c he was thirsty,
which in turn woke both puppies up.
Blake decided since we were up,
we should go ahead and hit the road.
I couldn't open my eyes I was still so tired
so we laid down till 4:30am and then got up.
We were on the road for home by 5am.

Our first stop of the day,
 Durango, Colorado.
We found a great park,
so I dropped the boys off to run around
while I went and rounded up some breakfast.

Nothing but road....

Next stop,
Albuquerque, New Mexico for lunch.
There wasn't near as much pretty grass to run around on
so Blake took the pups on a walk through dead fields
and RHETT hung out with me in the shade.

looks like home......

We pulled into our driveway at 7:30pm Wednesday evening.
We were over the moon to be home
and get to see george henry again.
We missed him like crazy.

 Surprisingly,
he was happy to see us too!!

The pups are liking their new, permanent home,
george is tolerating them,
RHETT is so glad to be back in his domain
and were are glad to be back in our world!!

Until next summer.....

Lauren and Patricks Wedding in NOLA

Blake and I caught the red-eye out of Vernal
Thursday morning August 9
in route to NOLA.
Catching the red eye meant a 4:30am wake up call
but I didn't care,
we were escaping Vernal for the weekend!!

We got to New Orleans at 1:30
and were ready to hit the town
and not waste one precious minute.

After our $41 cab ride to the hotel
all I wanted for lunch was some yummy sushi.
So after a $13 cab ride
(it was raining or else we'd have taken the street car)
(in which my debit card kept being declined..turns out it was her machine)
we finally arrive at Kyoto
(starving b/c we hadn't eaten since leaving Vernal)
we pull on the door only to then see the sign
"lunch 11-2:30, supper 5-10:30"
it was 3:15!

I refused at this point to pay for another cab
since we had already been out $54 on cabs
and had done absolutely nothing!!

I think about what's close and remember passing Superior in the cab
so we take off walking the 1 mile in the rain;
it was a real pleasure as I'm sure you can imagine.

We finally get to Superior
and I have a huge blister on the ball of my right foot
(I was wearing my Bernardos..not walking shoes)
and am freezing and wet.

My folks call b/c they are pulling in to town
and I ask them to come pick us up,
as again I'm boycotting cabs at this point.

The only reason I didn't lose my cool
is b/c Jacques Imos was on the schedule for supper
and that place will make the devils heart happy.

My folks pick us up
and we head back to the hotel to freshen up
and rest for a little bit.

My cousin Jimmy
and his wife Heidi
were planning to met us at Jacques Imos.
On the way there,
Blake comments on Milly's (mom's) car pulling extremley bad to the right.
About the time he says something,
all the lights, etc start flashing
"low tire pressure".
Dad jumps out to see a completely flat right front tire,
REALLY!?!?!

As we are limping back to the hotel
with the plan to jump in a cab and make it to supper,
my cousin calls and says that they just got to the restaurant
and there's a sign on the door
"closed for vacation",
REALLY!?!?!

We finally end up at some random restaurant behind the hotel.
It was good but no Jacques Imos.

I was more than ready for a drink at this point,
as I'm sure you can imagine,
so we scooted down Bourbon to Pat O's to meet up with everyone.

me, Sean, Milly, Ice and Blake
I was so bent out of shape with the days transgressions
I had entirely too many Hurricanes
and found myself in bed all day Friday recovering.

I drug myself out of bed at 3pm
to start getting ready for the rehearsal which started at 4.
I had sent Blake with Ice and Milly (mom&dad)
to the WWII museum so I could "rest" and recover.
I go to put my dress on and realize it is entirely too short
(turns out I bought a tunic, not a dress)
so in good bridesmaid fashion,
I show up in Lauren's room asking to borrow a dress...
bride's worst nightmare!!

So here were are at the rehearsal dinner
I look like hell but still felt like it at this point
 Saturday,
the besties minus Whitney,
came over for a day of fun.
Mikki, Ellie, me, Mandy
We lunched at Acme Oyster house
and then wandered around
looking at cute shops and people watching.

It was SO much fun to see them
and catch up!!!
It's been entirely too long.

I had to be at the Monteleone
for my hair and make up at 2pm.
It was so much fun to get all done up!!
fake eyelashes
hair do
The wedding was beautiful
and I really enjoyed catching up with some high school friends.
me, Ice, Josie and Leslie
mini high school reunion
Alice, Claire, Allison, Elizabeth, me, Leslie and Josie
We closed the weekend out
with a stop at Cafe du Monde;
whats a trip to NOLA without that!!

We headed to the airport around lunch
and made it back to Vernal in time to load up the car
and head back home!!

We had a great time
and congrats to the precious bride & groom!!

Spirit Lake Camping Experience

Well folks
we went camping this weekend.
Camping in a cabin, not a tent.
I don't do tents and I barely do cabins
and I am now reminded why!

Here we are on our way to the mountain
before the pukin' rally began.....
Apparently, Boone and Crockett are both extremely motion sick.
Just perfect considering we have a 17 hour drive ahead of us next week.

B&C each puked 3 times
with Boone's third and final being all over RHETT.
RHETT was a good sport about it
but refused to get anywhere near them or his bed until we got home today
and everything was washed.
Can't say that I blame him!

Our cute little cabin....White Elk

the bed and table
table and fire pit
Boone and Crockett were plum worn out by the time we made it
around 2:30 so they each took a quick cat nap
before we started exploring all the trails.

It gets pretty darn cold in the mountain at night
so I built a roaring fire for us,
no thanks to my non-boy scout husband!

BEG and RHETT off to fish
Spirit Lake
Crockett patrolling our porch
We left around 10 this am to head back home
as we knew the ride would be long and eventful.

Thankfully, Crockett passed out with RHETT in the back.

and Boone passed out up close near us
after he whined for the 1st 30 minutes
and took a nap in my lap.

 We only had 1 vomit
and it came from Boone about 20 minutes before we were home.

I think we will stay at our own house for awhile
when we finally get there in 2 weeks.

The Garretts and camping
were not meant to used in the same sentence
so please do not ever invite us!

Uintah County Fair

We headed on out for the
Uintah County Fair last weekend.

Thursday night
we snuck a peak at the Charlie Jenkins/John Michael Montgomery concert.

 Tickets were $25/person
and I just refused to pay that for JMM so
we snuck into the bleachers behind the stage!

Friday night
they showed the movie "8 Seconds" on a blow-up big screen.

It is about world famous bull rider Lane Frost
who was killed during a ride in Wyoming in 1989 in his mid twenties.
His family still owns and operates a ranch in Vernal
so the story is very close to these peoples hearts.
It was a very good movie and knowledgeable
to a non bull riding person!

We were anxiously awaiting Saturday all week.
The Demolition Derby.
And these people did not disappoint.

I will never complain about Lubbock again!

Dinosaur National Monument

We had been told by multiple people to not leave Vernal
without visiting the Dinosaur Quarry
so we decided to venture over there last Sunday.

It's about 30 minutes from Vernal
in Dinosaur, Colorado
and was pretty darn cool.

It actually just opened back up after being closed for 2 years
so I am glad we were able to experience it.

real dinosaur bones still in the mountain

touching dinosaur bones!!

Very interesing how so many bones ended up in the same location....

more bones.....

riding the trolley back to the visitors center....

It's incredible to see up close and personal
how large these animals truly were!
