Blake and I checked into Covenant Women and Children's Hospital
Tuesday morning July 9 at 7:15am.
When I was checked at arrival
I was 3cm and 80% effaced.
Dr. Hatton came in at 8:20am to break my water
and Lisa started the Pitocin drip.
Blake and I hung out, watched TV, read magazines
and talked about how life was about to get fun!
Around 9:30,
his parents and Jill showed up for a visit.
My contractions really started to pick up
(2.5 minutes apart and relatively strong)
around 10am, so I had Lisa call the 'medicine man'.
He came in around 10:45,
got the epidural going and we were in business.
The epidural made me extremely nauseous,
so they rolled me on my left side,
gave me some meds and ice chips
and hollered "hope it works" as he left the room, ha!
Apparently, when they rolled me over so soon after giving it
90% of the medicine settled on my left side.
So I had feeling (no pain but LOTS of pressure) on my right side
and my left side was dead as a doornail!
Because I had some feeling,
I could feel the contractions coming and had LOADS of pressure.
At 12:45pm I told Blake to find Lisa because I was certain this baby was coming.
By this time my parents had arrived,
so me, Blake, Jill, the Garrett's and my folks were all visiting in the room.
Lisa had told us when we checked in most 1st time moms
usually do not have their babies till around 3-5pm.
and told everyone,
"out, we are having a baby!"
I started pushing at 1:00pm.
Again, I could feel when to push
and was able to get some good pushes in
as I had feeling.
Dr. Hatton arrived about 1:30
and 4 pushes later
I heard the best thing I've ever heard before
(besides 'I do' from my sweet husband)
MaeMargaret Lenoir Garrett came into this world
at 1:39pm
measuring 20.5" long
weighing 7# 3oz
with a head full of dark hair.
and looks just like him from the nose up.
She has my fat cheeks and sunken chin.
She is absolutely perfect
and our hearts couldn't be more full!
and our hearts couldn't be more full!
Our fabulous doctor, Amanda Hatton!
Daddy was able to help give MaeMargaret her first bath
And cut her cord!
Then he was able to get her dressed for the first time
She was snug as a bug!
And then we just hung out
and admired her for the next 2 days
Our first photo as a family of 3
Skin to skin with Daddy
She looks just like her Daddy...
We were discharged Wednesday evening
and were so glad to get home!
MaeMargaret did great
but between all the nurses waking me up throughout the night
to check vitals, take blood, etc it was definitely time to get home!!
One of my favorite pictures!
We are overwhelmed by all the love and support we have felt during the last week.
Our hearts could not be more full
and we feel so blessed to be MaeMargaret's parents.
