Mini Getaway

Blake took his last final for year 1 last Tuesday
and we were dying to skip town for a few days.
We were so excited to be out of town
and doing fun things,
I forgot to take any pictures =(
There's not much that's "photo worthy"
out here in LBK.

We celebrated our 2 year wedding anniversary Tuesday, as well
so we were trying to think of somewhere fun
with good food, great friends and
where we don't get very often.

We chose none other than DFW
and are so glad we did!

We started our adventure Wednesday morning,
stopping in Abilene to leave the pets with the inlaws,
go to the dentist for our 6 month cleaning,
and have a delicious supper with
Lacy and Brent Mankin
at Copper Creek.

The next morning we loaded up
and hit the road
as Blake had an orthodontist appt in Arlington at 11.
After his appointment,
we met Dan Green at P.F. Chang's to visit with him
before heading to the ballpark for the Rangers game.
Texas Rangers vs Oakland A's
Go Rangers!!!
Although they lost,
 we enjoyed ourselves very much!
After the ballgame,
we went and checked into the hotel
and got dressed for dinner at III Forks
with Foster Green and Emily and Cody Miller.

We slept in a little bit Friday;
thank goodness because we both needed it!
Once we finally got up and moving,
we headed to Northpark
for La Madeline's
and to stroll around the mall
while we waited on Mom and Dad to arrive.
They got in around noon,
so we headed over to Los Colinas for the
Byron Nelson Golf Tournament.
The only picture we took at the golf tourney =(
We thoroughly enjoyed spending the beautiful day outside
and catching up with my parents.
After the golf tournament,
we cleaned up and headed over to La Cima
with the folks for supper.
The food was delicious
and the views were spectacular!
We bid the parents adieu,
and headed back to Dallas
to meet up with Foster and Molly DeWare
for drinks but didn't last long
as we were exhausted.

Saturday morning we stopped off at
Another Broken Egg Cafe
for a devine breakfast
before hitting the road to Fort Worth
to visit with Kristen and Dave Buchanan
and to met Baby Olive.
We had a great visit with them
and are so glad they are back closer
so we can see them more often.
Around 2pm,
we headed back to Abilene.

We hungout with the inlaws
all day Sunday;
attending church, playing golf (boys),
running errands (ladies), watching the eclispe
and just visiting.
It was wonderful.

We got home early Monday morning
and hit the ground running
trying to get all of our errands completed
and loose ends tied up
before we head to Utah Friday!

A Much Appreicated Study Break

Blake's fellow classmate and Cameroonian friend, Cedric,
came over on Saturday to cook some French food for us.
They will graduate in 2014 together.

We learned how to make crepes,
which isn't near as hard as I had envisioned,
and he made us a delicious cake.

We enjoyed chatting with he and his friend
about our different cultures and
their likes and dislikes of America/Americans.

We had a wonderful couple of hours with them
and appreciated the distraction from the books!!

Cedric, the cook
waiting to eat the delicious food

my yummy crepe
delicious!!

Speaking of the books,
Blake is halfway done with finals.

He had 2 Thursday and 1 Saturday,
all of which he feels like he did pretty well on.
He has 1 tomorrow and 2 Tuesday
and then school's out for summer!!!

We are really looking forward to the day
we can sing that song in its entirety
but we will have to wait another 2 years for that day!

But in the meantime,
we will continue to meet new friends
and bloom where we are planted.

Seersucker and Sombreros

I am confident that had Cinco de Mayo not fallen on a Saturday
that the majority of the population out here in West Texas
would have taken the day off from work to celebrate.

Blake and I were so excited for the Derby yesterday
that I quite frankly forgot about Cinco de Mayo
but I'm about the only one out here!

Both of our horses lost
but we really didn't expect to win,
we never do!

I was pretty disappointed in my pick,
Urban Rags.
Blake's choice,
Bodemeister
almost pulled out the win
but shoulda, coulda, woulda........

I honor of my southern roots
and Blake's mexican ones, ha
(just kidding)
Blake's west Texas ones
one of dressed for the Derby
while the other for Cinco de Mayo.

Had we not have been going to the end of the year SPE party at a bar,
he would have been a more appropriately dressed
(ie. button down and a bow tie)
but the seersucker, white sperrys and light pink polo proved to work just fine.
And I of course,
was in my mexican uniform straight off the streets of Matzalan.

We did stop by Abuelo's for a
Cervezarita
(margarita with an upside down Corona in it)
to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.
(I took a picture but can't get it to upload from my phone....)

Just a little keepsake photo

Rachel, Lacey and I

We had a great night visiting with friends;
some who are graduating next week :(
while others who are on this journey a bit longer with us,
thank goodness!
We definitely couldn't make this journey alone!!

Like the old saying goes,
misery loves company,
right!?!?!
